Dr. Delaine Dupree Bennett (commonly known as Dr. Dee Bennett) is an accomplished educator, leader, and community advocate. She serves as an Assistant Professor of Instructional Leadership and Administration in the College of Education at Troy University, where she advises and teaches graduate students in the M.S.Ed. Instructional Leadership and Administration program. Joining the faculty in 2019, she brings extensive experience in educational leadership, research, staff development, and teaching.A proud Troy University alumna (B.S. 1993, M.S. 1997), Dr. Bennett earned her Ed.D. from Columbus State University. She was honored as one of Troy University's Alumni of the Year in 2022 and is a lifetime member of the Troy University Alumni Association, later serving as president of the Alumni of the Year Society. In 2022, she was also recognized among the Women Who Shape Alabama for her impactful contributions.As co-founder of SHORT the Squirrel, a nonprofit literacy initiative launched in 2020 with Monica Anderson Young, Dr. Bennett has helped create an engaging "edutainment" mascot and activity-based program to promote reading, writing, and vocabulary skills among young children across Alabama. The organization has achieved rapid milestones, including transitioning to nonprofit status, expanding into schools and communities (such as courtrooms and events), and fulfilling its five-year strategic plan in just 18 months. SHORT the Squirrel continues to grow, partnering with entities like Alabama RC&D and celebrating key anniversaries with community impact.Dr. Bennett has successfully secured over $500,000 in grants to support educational and literacy efforts. She is also a co-author of the book Strategic Planning for School Leaders (published by Cognella) and remains active in community organizations, including the Eufaula Heritage Association and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.Through her roles in academia, nonprofit leadership, and advocacy, Dr. Bennett exemplifies dedication to educational excellence, literacy access, and community development.





Jason Bennett is a respected community leader, public servant, and business professional from Eufaula, Alabama. A proud Troy University alumnus (Class of '91), he currently serves as Barbour County Commissioner for District 2, where he focuses on economic development, infrastructure, and improving quality of life for residents across the county.Previously, he served as a City Councilman for the City of Eufaula, contributing to local governance, community projects, and decision-making on key initiatives. He also lends his expertise as a member of the Sorrell College of Business Executive Advisory Council at Troy University, advising on business education, industry partnerships, and student success.With approximately 30 years of experience in capital sales, Jason has excelled in leadership roles including Sales Manager and Marketing Manager, driving high-value client relationships, strategic market growth, and revenue results in competitive industries (including regional sales management at Cama North America).As co-owner of Handling Source LLC—a minority-owned firm he runs with his wife, Dr. Delaine Bennett—he provides expert business consulting, business development, grant writing, and flexible rental solutions through Ion Hub. His unique blend of public service, corporate acumen, and entrepreneurial spirit makes him a dedicated advocate for sustainable progress, literacy, education, and economic vitality in Southeast Alabama.Jason resides in Eufaula with his wife, Dr. Dee Bennett (Troy University professor and co-founder of SHORT the Squirrel literacy initiative), and their family.
